Flickr

Let me start off by saying that there are some beautifully composed photos at this site, which proves that you don’t have to be a professional, you just have to have a ‘good’ eye.  Because, boy howdy, there are some really poor photographs on there

Examples: One search for earl grey tea (I could blog the photo at my yahoo account, but how much space do I really want to take up?  There are only so many 1’s and 0’s in the world!).

What is it?  I can’t tell….and there’s a thumbprint…how messy!  I juast do not understand what earl grey has to do with this picture, and guessing frustrates me.

In the same search, I came across this photo, which is so eye-catching:

I will try and embed this in my photo section.  Hopefully, it will work better than the "meebo me" widget that never took
(BTW:  too many people use the Star Trek phrase, "Earl Grey. Hot" tag)

Streaming Music

Okay, I’m really bummed that MusicStrand is currently in a private Beta, because I like the idea that you pick music you like, and they suggests artists you may never have heard of ("ReadAlikes" sites have benn good to me thus far).

FineTunes seems great in that it promotes itself as a place where you only listen to the music you want, but I can’t get an account started.  It keeps faulting: "Please Contact Administrator."  Not worth the time to hassle with right now.

I’m not impressed with Pandora.  Just seems like lots of advertising, and not very much free music that I’d listen to.

Live streaming music takes up tons of bandwidth, which is expensive where I live in the boonies.  I’ll stick with my CD’s.

BlogLines

What a great RSS feed!  I like that it has suggestions for popular blogs, but also that it lets you subscribe to any blog you want. "CollectingMyThoughts" is a great blog, as is Library Journal’s "Annoyed Librarian"  (I do like a touch of sarcasm every once in a while).   It’s nice to have everything on one place, and, even though I manage my feeds at home with Microsoft’s RSS reader, when I’m out in the big, wide, world, I still want to see my list (I do not trust Remote Access enough yet – too much chance of things being pilfered from the ether!)

Stanwood Area Historical Society

I started volunteering today at the Stanwood Area Historical Society…I shall be scanning and cataloging photographs – very cool.  I also found out that our 94-y.o. neighbor is quite of a legend at the SAHS.  I knew Nels was a wonderful guy, and fsacinating (he has been all over the world doing animal vet "things"), but I didn’t realize how may other people were lucky enough to know him, too.  And to think he helps split our wood!  A nice afternoon, all ’round.  Now let’s hope that I understand cataloging well enough to not mess up.

BTW….a great blog site: collectingmythoughts.blogspot.com

Take care, y’all   (ooops – my inner Paula Dean is showing!).

So now that I’ve re-read the directions….

I’ll talk about IM instead of just doing it.  I’ve IM’ed for years with my husband: our computers are in different rooms.  It’s great, and there’s no having to repeat what you’ve said (and no blithe "yes dears" when the other really isn’t listening).  I’m still trying to add Meebo, but Spaces seems to be down right now (again), so the widget won’t imbed…URGH!

Well, time to get some heat into the house – it’s freezing outside and only 64 degrees in here…too chilly for my blood.
Take care all!

Hobbies

How do people find time for hobbies?  (Or perhaps ‘make time’ is the better phraseology)  I feel so guilty if I’m not working – I even know that it’s a biblical command, but I just don’t know how to ‘do’ it, and to enjoy it while I’m doing it.  Any hints?

It’s been 5 days since I started…

…and I’m not quite sure what to add, yet.  Do you write stuff down like you did in your middle school diary?  If so, there’s going to be lots of things I look back on in a few years, and think, "Boy, that was a dorky thing to write."  I guess the nice thing about blogs is that you can always delete them so that if it is embarassing, unless someone has saved screenshots, you can pretend it never happened.  Nope, never.

Starting Web 2.0

Well, I’m taking the plunge and risking the embarassment of possibly making my blog a boring one. As long as I didn’t tend to it, I couldn’t be accused of having absolutlely no inner artist or of not being clever.

But now I’m off on this Adventure.  How inspired can I be?  Will it force me to become more creative…will I unleash something heretofore unseen, but that’s been lying deep within my bosom for 41 years?  Will this be great therapy and clean my soul?

Wish me luck, please

And a Happy New Year to All!
